Leading intercessions
2 sessions of 1 ½ hours; Up to 6 participants
To enable people to be more confident in leading intercessions. It is equally useful for those relatively new to leading intercessions, and those with more experience.
Discovering gifts
2 sessions of 2 hours; 5-15 participants
This course looks at how Christians can discover the gifts of God within themselves and grow in relationship with God and with each other.
Leading housegroups
4 sessions of 2 hours each; 5-15 participants
For new and existing housegroup leaders, this course looks at and develops skills in leading groups of Christians who come together to grow in relationship with God and with each other.
Reading in church
2 sessions of 1 ½ hours. The second session takes place in church. 4-6 participants
To provide confidence and a basic skill in reading in church. Ideal for those new to reading in church, but is also useful as a ‘revision’ session for those who already read in church.
Ways of praying
4 sessions of 1 ½ hours
To explore traditions of prayer, to consider other ways of prayer and to gain insights into spirituality. Suitable both for those relatively new to faith and those who wish to re-consider their prayer life.
A welcoming church
2 sessions of 2 hours
To improve the warmth of welcome provided by a church. Suitable for a team of people from a church who have been asked to lead the improvement of the welcome given to visitors and newcomers.
Theology of hymns
1 session of 2 hours
For anyone who has sung hymns and wants to learn more about them. Participants will listen to and reflect on some hymns – no singing required! There is a charge of £3.50 per participant to cover the cost of the pre-course booklet
Architecture – walls, worship and witness
2 sessions of 2 hours, with a church or cathedral visit in between
In what ways can the church building serve the community? What is the relationship between church buildings and worship? Are churches ever obstacles to faith? Useful for parishes thinking about reordering or new uses for buildings.
Youth Leader Training
A flexible modular course designed for all those who are working with, or would like to work with, young people. 5 modules of 6 hours each. Can lead to a Certificate, or credits towards a degree - for further details contact the Youth Adviser, Pam Richards 01291 423378 pam.j.richards@btinternet.com

Visiting
3 sessions of 2-2 ½ hours (sessions can be arranged some time apart so as to give participants the opportunity to put into practice what they learn in each session)
Session 1 – The practicalities of making a visit
2 ½ hrs
Visiting on behalf of the Church? This session raises awareness of the practicalities involved in carrying out a visit.
Session 2 – Visiting the sick
2 hours (participants should have first undertakenThe practicalities of making a visit)
To help participants understand the feelings and pastoral needs of the sick.
Session 3 – Visiting the bereaved
2 ½ hours (participants should have first undertaken The practicalities of making a visit and Visiting the sick)
To help those who visit people who have been bereaved to understand some of the issues, and to give a framework of good practice. NB this is NOT training in bereavement counselling.
