Module 1:
Prayer and SPirituality
The aims of the module
The module aims to give you an opportunity to explore some of the issues raised by spirituality and prayer in an age influenced by a scientific and secular culture. It also provides an opportunity to rediscover the rich tapestry of the Christian spiritual heritage. The sessions aim to provide you with tools to develop your own spirituality by introducing you to formative women and men of prayer through the ages.
Also, at the end of this module we hope you will be excited about the diversity of ways in which God is revealed in the world. Out of this greater awareness you can then respond to the call to be truly who you are. Therefore, in more formal terms, by the end of this module you will be able:
- to understand from experience the rich spiritual traditions of Christianity
- to recognise and discern traditions helpful for spiritual maturity
- to use the varying traditions meaningfully
- to share with others an understanding of these resources
- to see the relationship between spirituality and its cultural context
