Thanksgiving Service for the life of
The Very Revd Jeremy Winston, Dean of Monmouth
The service took place at St Mary's Priory Church, Abergavenny, on 21 January 2012
(r to l) Bishop David Thomas, Bishop Gregory Cameron (St Asaph), Bishop John Davies (Swansea and Brecon), and Bishop Dominic Walker OGS (Monmouth) attended the service.
Over 800 people were in the congregation. The collection raised £3000 towards the newly- launched Dean Jeremy Winston Memorial fund. 600 cups of tea were served afterwards.
The Vicar, Fr Mark Soady, welcomed the High Sheriff of Gwent and (standing in background) the Lord Lieutenant for Gwent who was representing HRH Prince Charles.
Tributes were given by Hugh Carnell (Jeremy's cousin), Fr Malcolm Lane (close friend), Lord Rowe-Beddoe (left) and Bishop David Thomas.
Matthew Lane, Caroline Woollard, Christopher Winston, and Sheila Davies read passages from the bible, a poem by Henry Vaughan and a poem by Jeremy.
The Choir sang Allegri's Miserere before the service and, during the service, anthems:
May Christ give you rest - words from the Orthodox Funeral Rite set to music by Tim Pratt;
Give us the wings of faith - words by Isaac Watts set to music by Sire Ernest Bullock;
And I saw a new heaven - words from Revelation 21 set to music by Edgar Bainton
A Fund to create a permanent Memorial
to Dean Jeremy was launched at the service. The Fund will enable a permanent memorial to Dean Jeremy to be erected in the Lewis Chapel at St Mary's Priory Church, Abergavenny where he served as Vicar for 18 years. The sum of over three thousand pound collected at the Service of Thanksgiving will start the fund.
Dr George Nash, the Priory Church's Honorary Archaeologist-in-Residence, will publish a book of essays in Memory of Dean Jeremy and the proceeds from this sale will go to the fund.
Donations to the fund should be sent to the Dean Jeremy Winston Memorial Fund,
