PEtertide ordinations June 2009
The Bishop ordained three priests and seven deacons in Newport Cathedral on Saturday morning, 27th June, and one deacon in Cwmtillery on Monday 29th June
An ordination is always a time of great joy and the Cathedral was filled to overflowing with people who had travelled from the parishes in which the new clergy will be ministering. After the service, the Bishop sent a message to those who could not find room in the Cathedral.
The preacher was Rt Revd Anthony Pierce, retired Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, who had just spent three days leading a retreat for those to be ordained.
Ordained priest were:
Revd Victoria Ashley, Assistant Curate, Tredegar (St George) with Tredegar (St James)
Revd John Lloyd Hughes, NSM Assistant Curate, Abergavenny, St Mary with Llanwenarth Citra & Abergavenny, Holy Trinity
Revd Marion Redwood, NSM Assistant Curate, Abercarn and Cwmcarn
Ordained deacon were:
Annette Marie Church, to be Assistant Curate, Rectorial Benefice of Caldicot
Susan Lynne Collingbourne, to be NSM Assistant Curate, Maesglas & Duffryn, Newport
Mary Elizabeth Dunn, to be NSM Assistant Curate, Malpas

Bishop's message
Dear brothers and sisters,
It was a great joy to ordain seven deacons and three priests this morning in the Cathedral but we were not anticipating so many people – they arrived by the coachloads! Such overwhelming support is wonderful, but sadly it resulted in a number of people not being able to have seats. Some people had received prayer cards and thought these were tickets for the service.
If people from your churches were among those who could not get a seat [and I know that some decided to go home] then please pass on my apologies for such a disappointment. I am sure that their prayers for the ordinands were joined with the prayers of those inside the Cathedral.
We shall need to review the situation and in future either restrict attendance to ticket holders only or have more than one ordination service.
Please remember those who will be exercising their ministry as deacons and priests for the first time tomorrow.
With all good wishes,
+ Dominic
