Four people from the diocese have received Awards for Church Music from the Archbishop of Wales.

Geoffrey Jenkins, director of music for the past 20 years at St Cadoc, Caerleon, Newport, received the Archbishop of Wales’ Award in Church Music. This award aims to encourage and recognize the work of those achieving exceptional standards in church music, and who have devoted a significant amount of their time serving within Wales.

The Archbishop of Wales’ Certificate of Merit in Church Music was awarded to Wendy Windsor of St Augustine’s, Blackwood;
Dorothy Jones of St Mary’s, Caldicot; and Arthur Jones of St Stephen’s, Newport. Read more

The Revd Jonathan Simon Williams, Rector in the Rectorial Benefice of Bassaleg and Area Dean of Bassaleg, is also Canon of St Woolos.

The Revd Brian Maurice Williams Stares, Vicar of the Benefice of Bishton, is also Honorary Canon of St Woolos

Both were installed in St Woolos Cathedral on 23 November.

Esther's PictureIt was hard to choose a winner from the entries submitted by pupils at Caerleon Endowed Junior Schol in a competion to design the cover of the 2007/8 Diocesan Year Book, but Esther Sully’s design was chosen for her lively use of colour and the way the happy people give a welcoming impression with the church building clearly there but in the background.


Another winner was Sasha Wilson whose thoughtful design was chosen as the cover for the new handbook

group photoRevd Dennis Richards, Revd Dr William Ingle-Gillis, and Revd Janet Bone have all completed training to become Prayer Guides, qualified to lead a Week of Guided Prayer or a Weekend Individually Guided Retreat. They will be helping with the Diocesan Week of Guided Prayer from 17th - 24th Feb 2008. Watch out for details.
