Reader Ministry

A Reader in the Diocese of Monmouth is licensed primarily to the ministry of publicly reading, preaching and teaching the Word

He or she may also, with incumbent's permission, perform a variety of pastoral duties. With PCC and vicar's sponsorship, a Reader may also be given Bishop's licence to administer the Sacrament at the altar, sometimes even in the absence of a priest, and, perhaps, additionally, to act as Eucharistic Assistant amongst the sick and housebound of the parish.

The selection procedure is simple. Candidates for Readership are nominated by their Incumbent and PCC. It is they who select initially. The candidates are then interviewed by the Warden of Readers.
